Quassia Chips Bitter Wood Bark Herbal Tea ~ Quassia Amara
Origin: Jamaica
The Quassia Chips (wood chips from the Quassia amara tree , also known as bitter wood) are traditionally used to make an extremely bitter tea that is primarily used to aid the digestive system and fight parasites. It is considered one of the bitterest natural substances in the world.
Method of Preparation
There are two basic ways to make tea:
Hot Decoction: Boil about 5-10g of chips in 1 liter of water for 10-15 minutes. Let it "rest" for about an hour before straining.
Cold Extraction: Soak the chips in cold water for 12 hours. This method is often preferred to preserve its properties without the intense bitterness of boiling.
Due to the strong flavor, many people add honey or cinnamon sticks to make it more pleasant.
