Ceylon Cloves Dried Whole Buds Spice ~ Syzygium Aromaticum

The Whole dried Ceylon cloves ( Syzygium aromaticum ) are the closed, aromatic flower buds of the evergreen tree of the same name, which are collected before they bloom and dried in the sun until they acquire their characteristic dark brown color. The variety from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) is considered of superior quality as it is richer in essential oils compared to other varieties worldwide.

Characteristics & Taste

Appearance : They resemble small nails (hence their name) with a body 1-2 centimeters long and a round head.

Flavor Profile : They have an intense, warm and spicy aroma with sweet and slightly bitter notes.

Uses in the Kitchen

Sweets : Essential in syrups for baked sweets (baklavas, kandaifi), compotes, jams and Christmas cookies.

Food : Used in marinades for meats, in broths, stews and traditional dishes such as pilaf or biryani.

Drinks : Ideal for mulled wine, chai tea and hot ciders. 

Store whole cloves in an airtight glass jar in a cool, shady place. This way they will retain their fragrance for up to a year.
