Astragalus Dried Root Powder ~ Astragalus Propinquus
Origin: China
The Astragalus , specifically the variety Astragalus propinquus (synonym of Astragalus membranaceus ), is one of the fundamental herbs of traditional Chinese medicine. The powder is made from the dried root of the plant, which has a characteristic sweet and slightly earthy flavor , sometimes reminiscent of licorice.
Culinary & Preparatory Uses
Due to its mild and pleasant taste, Astragalus powder is easily incorporated into the diet:
Soups & Broths: In Asia, the root is traditionally added to soups (such as chicken soup) to boost their nutritional value. The powder can be stirred directly into broths.
Smoothies & Elixirs: Goes great with Reishi and Raspberries , providing a sweet base.
Herbal Latte: Can be mixed with hot herbal milk, honey and cinnamon for a relaxing caffeine-free drink.
Breakfast: Add 1/2 teaspoon to yogurt, oatmeal or muesli.
Instructions for Use (Herbal Tea)
Although it is powdered, the root is fibrous, so the best method is to lightly simmer it :
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of powder in a cup of warm water.
Leave it for 5-10 minutes (preferably covered).
Drink it as is or add it to your favorite tea (e.g. Ceylon Pekoe)
