Rosehips Whole Dried Loose Herbal Tea ~ Rosa Canina

The dried rosehip ( Rosa canina ), also known as wild rose fruit, offers a drink with a lively, tart flavor reminiscent of green apple, ripe plum and hibiscus. It is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C and is traditionally used to strengthen the immune system.

Flavor Profile and Uses

Taste : Characterized by a delicate floral base with a strong tart (sour) aftertaste and fruity aroma.

Appearance : The decoction has a deep red or orange color.

Cooking : In addition to tea, the whole fruits are used to make jam, syrup, soup (such as Swedish nyponsoppa) and even wine.

Preparation Instructions (Decoction)

To preserve vitamin C, which is destroyed at very high temperatures, the following procedure is recommended: 

Proportion : Use about 1 tablespoon (or 5-10 whole berries) per cup of water.

Temperature : Heat the water to 84-86°C (before it starts boiling vigorously).

Extraction : Let the fruits soak for 10-15 minutes .

Filtering : If you break the nuts, use a very fine strainer or coffee filter to remove the small irritating hairs inside. 

Suggested Combinations

Rosehip pairs extremely well with ingredients that complement its acidity:

Herbs : Hibiscus (for a more intense red color), mint or ginger for stimulation.

Spices : Cinnamon, cloves or cardamom for hot drinks in winter.

Sweeteners : Honey or stevia, which help bring out the naturally sweet notes of the fruit.
