Handmade Frankincense Paste Incense crafted on Mount Athos (Agion Oros) is one of the most distinctive aromatic traditions in Eastern Orthodox monasticism.

Unlike typical dry resin tears or hard incense pebbles, Athonite frankincense paste has a soft, moist, pliable texture:

Natural Frankincense Tears: High-grade resin (Boswellia) ground and used as the core aromatic base.

Pure Beeswax & Essential Oils: Monks knead the raw resin with natural beeswax and botanical/floral essential oils (such as rose, myrrh, spikenard, or gardenia) to create a rich, cohesive paste.

Less Smoke & Cleaner Burn: Because of its soft consistency and moisture balance, paste incense releases a smooth, long-lasting aroma with significantly less harsh charcoal smoke.

Hypoallergenic Alternative: Traditional dry incense often uses talc or magnesium powder to keep the cut pieces from sticking together. Frankincense paste omits coating powders, making it ideal for individuals with sensitive airways or allergies.

How to Burn Frankincense Paste

Light a quick-lighting charcoal tablet in your censer until it is fully glowing red and ash-covered.

Break off a small pea-sized portion of the paste using your fingers or a tool.

Place the paste slightly to the side of the charcoal (or on a piece of foil/mica sheet on top of the coal) to allow a slow, fragrant smolder rather than burning it too quickly.
