The Genmaicha (pronounced gen-mai-cha) is a traditional Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice. It is also known as "popcorn tea" because some of the rice grains "pop" during the roasting, resembling tiny popcorn kernels. 

Flavor Profile & Aroma

Genmaicha offers a unique balance between the freshness of green tea and the warmth of cereals: 

Taste: It has a rich, dry-fruity and sweet flavor with low astringency. Its notes are reminiscent of roasted rice and soft caramel.

Aroma: Its aroma is intense and comforting, with dominant notes of roasted rice and fresh grass.

Appearance: The decoction has a characteristic light yellow or lemon color. 

Features & Benefits 

Low Caffeine: Contains approximately 30-50% less caffeine than pure Sencha green tea, as half of the blend is made from rice. This makes it ideal for consumption throughout the day, even in the afternoon or evening.

Relaxing Action: Contains the amino acid L-theanine, which is associated with promoting calmness and mental concentration .

Nutritional Value: It is rich in antioxidants (such as catechins), vitamins B and C, as well as minerals such as magnesium and selenium.

Preparation Instructions

Water Temperature: 80°C to 90°C (avoid boiling water to avoid burning the leaves).

Dosage: 1 to 1.5 teaspoons (3-5 g) per 200-250 ml of water.

Extraction Time: 1 to 3 minutes.

You can also enjoy it as a cold brew , leaving it in the refrigerator for 3 to 6 hours.
