Pink Peppercorns Whole Pink Pepper ~ Schinus Terebinthifolius
Origin: Brazil
The Pink Pepper , scientifically known as Schinus terebinthifolius , is the dried fruit of the Brazilian pepper tree. Despite its name, it is not a "true" pepper (like black or white), but a fruit of the Anacardiaceae family , which also includes cashews.
Flavor Profile & Cooking
Pink pepper is famous for its elegant appearance and special flavor, which differs significantly from classic pepper.
Taste: It is mildly spicy, with intense fruity, sweet and floral notes , while slightly reminiscent of pine and citrus aromas.
Use: Due to its delicate nature, its outer shell breaks easily. It is preferable to use it whole or slightly crushed in a mortar.
Combinations: Goes great with seafood, white meats, salads, fruits, and even in desserts with chocolate or ice cream.
Precautions & Safety
Allergies: Due to its relationship to cashews and pistachios , people with allergies to these nuts should avoid it.
Heat: Cooking at high temperatures is not recommended, as its aromatic compounds evaporate above 60°C, leaving a bitter taste.
Pets: It is toxic to dogs and cats , as it can cause gastrointestinal upset and lethargy.
