Irish Moss (Chondrus crispus) is a species of red algae found along the rocky Atlantic coasts of Europe and North America. As a dried loose herb, it is commonly used to make nutrient-dense teas, gels, and culinary thickeners due to its high carrageenan content.

Soaking: Place the cleaned moss in a bowl of fresh water. Let it soak for 12 to 24 hours at room temperature or in the fridge until it expands and softens.
Brewing Tea: Simmer the rehydrated moss in water for about 30 minutes. You can add ginger, lemon, or honey to mask the slightly salty, oceanic flavor.
Making Gel: Blend the soaked moss with a small amount of fresh water until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency. This gel can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 weeks and added to smoothies or soups.
It is not suitable for individuals with seafood allergies. A typical safe daily amount is approximately 4 grams or 1–2 tablespoons of prepared gel.
